not only that, peter benchley regretted writing the original novel right up until his death, and spent his final years trying to raise awareness and reverse the impact jaws had on people’s perception of sharks, which his wife continues today

When people say “oh it’s just a movie/tv show/book, it’s not real!” I like to bring this up because everyone knows Jaws wasn’t real but there was a devastating impact on humans (who completely freaked out) and the shark population (since people went on a shark killing spree).
